Which ski resorts can you discover on a weekend in the Tarentaise?
The Eden de la Vanoise campsite is at the gateway to the Paradiski area, one of the largest ski areas in the world. Les Arcs is 30 km away, linked to La Plagne and Peisey-Vallandry (less than 11 km, a 15-minute drive): more than 400 km of slopes between the three.
In Bourg-Saint-Maurice, just 8 km away, take the funicular that climbs straight up to Les Arcs. La Rosière, also less than 8 km away, opens onto the French-Italian San Bernardo area: ski on the French side, thrills on the Italian side in La Thuile.
Fancy some big skiing? Tignes and Val d’Isère, less than 40 km away, together form an area with 300 km of slopes. More low-key, Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise is 17 km away.
What activities should you plan for your weekend in Savoie?
In Savoie, hikers are spoilt for choice with the many trails in the heart of the mountains. From Aviernoz, set off on the Grande boucle du Parleman. From Bonneval-sur-Arc, you can also take the Balcon et refuge du Carro trail.
With family or friends, head for the Vanoise National Park and its many trails for all levels, or Lac du Bourget, the largest natural lake in France: stroll along its shores and swim in its clear waters if the weather allows.
Fancy a quieter break? The spas of Aix-les-Bains, a Savoie town famous for its thermal waters, extend the relaxation (and in winter, its Christmas market is worth a visit). And back at the campsite, the covered and heated swimming pool stays open all season to end the day gently. If the weather turns, find our ideas for things to do in Savoie when it rains. For a day trip further afield, three destinations are worth the journey: Annecy and its lake (about 1h30 by road), passing the famous Col de la Forclaz above Talloires, popular with cyclists; Grenoble (about 1h30 to 2h depending on traffic); or Chambéry (about 1h20), especially for heritage lovers, with the Maison Opinel.
For sportier plans, you will be spoilt for choice: mountain biking, climbing, via ferrata, canoeing and kayaking, paragliding or hang-gliding. The region’s varied landscapes lend themselves to them all year round.
