Paragliding in Savoie: in winter and summer

3 min readPublished on 9 October 2026

In short

Paragliding can be enjoyed in Savoie all year round, summer and winter, thanks to a microclimate that favours flying and many take-off spots: La Plagne, close to the campsite, or the Col du Sapenay and Saint-Jean-de-la-Porte near Chambéry (about 105 km). For a first flight or a full course, several renowned schools (Les Arcs, Arcs en Ciel, AIR La Plagne) guide beginners and experienced pilots.

Key takeaways

  • Best season: summer, for clearer skies and less cold air at altitude.
  • Well-known spots: La Plagne (near the campsite); Col du Sapenay, Saint-Jean-de-la-Porte and the Lac du Bourget area, near Chambéry (about 105 km, 1 h 20 from the campsite).
  • Tandem flights: École de Parapente des Arcs, AIR La Plagne, École de Parapente Arcs en Ciel (take-off at 2,000 m, about 20 minutes of flight).
  • Full beginner course: training slope (2-3 days) then big flights guided by radio (2-3 days), certificate issued at the end of the course.

Paragliding in winter and summer in Savoie

Whether it is your first paragliding flight in Savoie or your umpteenth, you are sure to have an extraordinary experience. Summer is the perfect season for this activity. At this time of year, Savoie offers all the ideal weather conditions for flying, as the sky is clearer and the cold air at altitude disappears. However, a first flight or a flight for experienced pilots can just as well be planned in winter.

Paragliding in Savoie is renowned worldwide for the beauty and variety of its routes. Soaring over the area, you will be dazzled by the limestone walls of the Dents de Lanfon, the imposing peaks of the Bauges and, of course, the turquoise waters of Lake Annecy, which we recommend visiting for a day. Throughout the flight, also enjoy the view of the chalets, La Plagne and its ski slopes, the fir trees and Mont Blanc.

Savoie, especially around Lac du Bourget (Chambéry area, about 105 km/1 h 20 from our campsite), has many places that allow safe take-offs and landings. Great sensations ahead!

Some providers for your first paragliding flight in Savoie

For your first paragliding experience, it is best to turn to professionals. Among the most recommended providers are:

  • École de Parapente des Arcs, which offers flights with a ski take-off. You can book your flight by buying a gift voucher online.
  • AIR La Plagne, whose team of professionals is recommended for a first tandem flight.
  • École de Parapente Arcs en Ciel, which offers take-offs at 2,000 m for a flight of around twenty minutes before landing in the valley at the Ilettes field.

Note that prices for improvement or learning courses are generally affordable for everyone.

Learning to paraglide in Savoie

Would you like to learn to paraglide? Sign up with the École de Parapente des Arcs, in Savoie, for a course. It includes:

  • A training slope session over 2 to 3 days, where you learn to inflate the wing, control your path on the ground and manage small hops that are useful for landing and take-off. You then follow a theory course split into several modules.
  • Big flights, over 2 or 3 days, where you fly on your own. Rest assured, one instructor guides you by radio at take-off and another for landing.

A certificate is issued at the end of the beginner course.

In short, the range of outdoor activities in Savoie is varied, and paragliding is one of them. To make the most of the experience, book a stay at the Eden de la Vanoise campsite, which has the advantage of being close to many sites suited to paragliding.

SébastienSébastien’s tip

Book your tandem flight online before your stay, especially in high season: slots with the best-known schools go quickly. And if you are hesitating between summer and winter, flying over the snowy slopes of La Plagne is a completely different show from a summer flight over Lake Annecy.
