5 min readPublished on 9 October 2026

In short

A 3-day wine road trip from the campsite: Apremont and Chignin-Bergeron on day one, the Épine massif and Seyssel on day two, and the shores of Lake Geneva to finish. Enough to discover the 4 AOCs and the best Savoie grape varieties without ever sleeping anywhere other than L’Éden de la Vanoise.

Key takeaways

  • Day 1: Montmélian and Apremont (1 h to 1 h 30 by road), Chignin-Bergeron and mineral white wines.
  • Day 2: Épine massif and Seyssel (about 1 h 20 by road), Marestel and Mondeuse grapes.
  • Day 3: shores of Lake Geneva (2 h 30 by road), dry whites and traditional sparkling wines.
  • 4 AOCs, 22 crus and 23 grape varieties across the whole Savoie vineyard.

The origins of Savoie wine date back to Antiquity, when Pliny and Columella were already praising the vines of Allobrogia in the 1st century AD. Today, despite a modest area spread over several departments (Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Isère, Ain), the Savoie vineyard stands out with its four AOCs, twenty-two crus and twenty-three grape varieties. In the heart of the Alps, between grand panoramas and authentic terroirs, local winegrowers open their doors along the Savoie Wine Route to share their passion, all a few hours' drive from our campsite in Savoie.

Day 1: the treasures of Lower Savoie: Apremont and Chignin-Bergeron

Set off in the morning for Montmélian (1 h to 1 h 30 by road from our Eden de la Vanoise campsite), a historic gem nestled in the heart of the Savoie vineyards. Here, Chignin-Bergeron, king of the local white wines, is waiting to reveal its secrets along the legendary Savoie wine route. Proximity, authenticity and Alpine scenery in the background: the ideal start to your wine odyssey!

Stroll through the charming lanes of Montmélian, then enjoy a walk among the terraced vineyard plots, suspended between sky and mountains. Discover the secrets of winemaking at the Domaine de l’Allobroge: anecdotes about grape varieties, passionate demonstrations... a total immersion in the soul of Savoie winemaking!

After this enriching morning, head for Apremont, just 13 minutes away by road! At the Chai des Vignerons d’Apremont, let yourself be seduced by white wines of rare elegance, with mineral and floral notes. A moment of pure delight for the taste buds... before continuing with a stop at the Domaine du Chignin, where Chignin-Bergeron reveals subtle aromas between white peach and hints of vanilla. These iconic stops on the Savoie wine route pay tribute to the diversity of Alpine grape varieties.

At the end of the day, head back to our Eden de la Vanoise campsite for a relaxing evening in the heart of unspoilt landscapes.

Day 2: Alpine terroirs: the Épine massif and the Seyssel vineyards

The second day takes you north, towards the Épine range and the shores of Lac du Bourget, about 70 km from our campsite (around 1 h 20 by road). This day lets you discover exceptional Alpine terroirs.

In the morning, discover the Domaine des Monthoux, at the foot of the Épine massif. It offers a breathtaking view of the terraced vineyards running down to Lac du Bourget, a short drive from our campsite.
Enjoy a guided tour to learn more about growing typical grape varieties such as Marestel and Mondeuse, which express the vigour of the Alpine terroir. A memorable outing on the Savoie wine route, just a few kilometres from our campsite!

For lunch, settle into a winegrowers' bistro facing the lake: smoked diots sausages, tartiflette and a glass of AOC Savoie wine with red-fruit aromas... A tasty comfort before heading on to Seyssel. Just 30 minutes away, the Domaine des Vins de Seyssel reveals its sparkling wines and whites with mineral freshness, the heirs of 80 years of know-how. An elegant interlude, perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the Savoie wine route!

Day 3: Lake Geneva wines: elegance and Savoie traditions

To round off your Savoie odyssey, head west from our Eden de la Vanoise campsite (2 h 30 by road), where Lake Geneva spreads out its shimmering waters and gently sloping vineyards. Here, the elegance of dry whites and the magic of traditional sparkling wines await you, with the Alpine art of living in the background.

In the morning, discover the world of the Domaine des Ripailles, clinging to sun-drenched hillsides. The vines produce white wines with aromas of wild flowers and white fruit; rare gems that capture the very essence of the Lake Geneva terroirs. A must-stop on the Savoie wine route!

At lunchtime, treat yourself to a break by the water in a charming restaurant and taste Savoie cuisine. Then, in the afternoon, head to the Chai de l’Ayze: this timeless place, dedicated to the sparkling wine of the same name, reveals fine, persistent bubbles born of ancestral methods.

Before returning to our campsite, extend the enchantment with a stroll along the lake!

Practical tips for a successful stay

  • Book ahead: contact the estates to arrange visits and tastings, as many only open by appointment. Our centrally located Eden de la Vanoise campsite makes planning your outings easy.
  • Alternate tastings and activities: to avoid saturation, combine wine tourism with the outdoors: vineyard hikes, mountain bike rides or discovering typical villages along the Savoie wine route. Designate a sober driver or opt for a private chauffeur.
  • Smart logistics: a cool box to keep your purchases (wine, cheese) and clothing suited to Alpine microclimates (layers, walking shoes). Check the weather to plan your days.
  • Respect local customs: avoid spitting out wine during tastings (unless a bucket is provided) and drink in moderation. If a tasting is free, consider buying a bottle to support the winegrowers.
  • Talk to the enthusiasts: winegrowers love sharing their knowledge! Ask them about grape varieties, the history of the place or their working methods. The Savoie wine route is also told through their stories!

The Savoie wine route, from our Eden de la Vanoise campsite, is much more than a wine itinerary: it is an immersion in the soul of the Alps!

SébastienSébastien’s tip

If you only taste one wine on this route, go for the Chignin-Bergeron from the Domaine du Chignin: it is the local benchmark, and the estate is easy to visit just after Montmélian, with no detour.
