It is characterised by its <strong>mountain pastures<\/strong> and <strong>flower meadows<\/strong>, the result of <strong>traditional pastoral farming<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alpine farms<\/strong>, such as the <strong>Ferme de la Forclaz<\/strong> or the <strong>Chalet de l\u2019Aulp<\/strong>, located near the <strong>Col de la Forclaz-Montmin<\/strong>, bring the mountain to life. This setting, facing <strong>Lake Annecy<\/strong> and the <strong>surrounding mountains<\/strong>, promises a grand panorama before you reach the top.<\/p>\n<h2>What to see and do at the pass?<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>Col de la Forclaz<\/strong> is a real <strong>activity hub<\/strong> that follows the rhythm of the seasons.<\/p>\n<h3>Free flight (paragliding)<\/h3>\n<p>The Col de la Forclaz, a paragliding hotspot, is a <strong>benchmark in Europe<\/strong>, attracting pilots from France and beyond. The <strong>Col de Forclaz-Montmin<\/strong> is ideal for flying over <strong>Lake Annecy<\/strong>. The <strong>purpose-built take-off area<\/strong> overlooks the <strong>Doussard landing zone<\/strong>, 700 metres below. <strong>Tandem flights<\/strong> are available (about \u20ac95 to \u20ac180), for an unforgettable experience between the <strong>mountains<\/strong> and the <strong>view over the lake<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>The cycling challenge (bike)<\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>climb up the Col de la Forclaz by bike<\/strong> is renowned. The <strong>Tour de France<\/strong> has passed here several times, most recently in 2023.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>North side<\/strong> (from <strong>Talloires<\/strong>): 7.3 km at an average gradient of 7.3%.<\/li>\n<li><strong>South side<\/strong> (via the <strong>Vesonne exit<\/strong>): more demanding, 9.1 km at an average gradient of 7.5%, reaching up to 12.8%. A climb worthy of the <strong>Col de la Croix Fry<\/strong>, delighting fans of steep climbs and <strong>Alpine panoramas<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Winter (skiing and snowshoeing)<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Skiing at the Col de la Forclaz<\/strong> is also a lovely discovery. The <strong>RD 42 road<\/strong> stays open to reach the <strong>village of Montmin<\/strong>. There you will find a <strong>family resort<\/strong>, the <strong>Forclaz-Montmin resort<\/strong>, run by volunteers and equipped with three drag lifts. Open on Wednesdays, weekends and during school holidays, it is perfect for beginners.<\/p>\n<p>The site is also an excellent <strong>starting point for snowshoe hikes<\/strong>, like the <strong>Pr\u00e9 du Col<\/strong> or the <strong>Col de l\u2019\u00c9pine<\/strong>. And for even more skiing, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.camping-eden-savoie.com\/en\/camping-ski\/\">ski near our campsite in Savoie<\/a>, close to the vast <strong>Paradiski<\/strong> area (425 km of slopes).<\/p>\n<h2>Walks in the area<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Hikes at the Col de la Forclaz<\/strong> are a must, crossing the <strong>GR 96<\/strong> and the <strong>Tour du lac d\u2019Annecy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Chalet de l\u2019Aulp<\/strong>: accessible (approx. <strong>500 m of ascent<\/strong>), this <strong>mountain pasture chalet<\/strong> is the <strong>starting point for La Tournette<\/strong>. Beware of <strong>livestock guardian dogs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>La Tournette<\/strong>: the <strong>local challenge<\/strong> for <strong>experienced hikers<\/strong>. The ascent (<strong>927 m of ascent from L\u2019Aulp<\/strong>) is demanding, but the view from the summit (2,351 m) is the reward: an incredible view over Lake Annecy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Angon waterfall<\/strong>: lower down, <strong>starting from Angon<\/strong> (<strong>Talloires-Montmin<\/strong>), a <strong>3-hour loop<\/strong> (<strong>384 m of ascent<\/strong>) leads to the <strong>Angon waterfall<\/strong>. Take care after rain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These walks are the heart of the Alpine experience. Before setting off, check the <strong>Col de la Forclaz weather forecast<\/strong>, as conditions change quickly. A <strong>Col de la Forclaz webcam<\/strong> lets you check <strong>visibility in real time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As for <strong>services<\/strong>, be careful: searching for a <strong>hotel at the Col de la Forclaz<\/strong> often leads to a <strong>namesake in Switzerland<\/strong>, near the <strong>St Bernard Pass<\/strong>. For food, several <strong>restaurants<\/strong> welcome you in <strong>Talloires<\/strong>, <strong>Menthon-Saint-Bernard<\/strong> (near <strong>Lake Annecy<\/strong>) or right at the <strong>pass<\/strong> (such as the <strong>Chalet de la Pricaz<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>For accommodation, there is <strong>no campsite at the Col de la Forclaz<\/strong>.
